But perhaps it's best to seek the services of tourist guides or contact a specialized travel agencies and meet the city and countryside by following one of the interesting and sometimes unusual thematic routes.

See what it's all in the offer and select the most interesting thematic tour for yourself:

Living History: The Forgotten Tvrđa

For your group we suggest that you book an appointment and get to know the city with theatre and tourist show (Living History tour) from the series Forgotten Tvrđa by Association CroCulTour. It's written and directed by Siniša Kovač (also known under the pseudonym Viktor Faber) who worked on similar projects in Istria. In the play are starring students of the Art Academy in Osijek in cooperation with the Children's Theatre. Walking through the old town Tvrđa discover the cultural and historical sights through stories about the experiences of famous people from Osijek. After the show it's possible to organize wine tasting, celebration and even a real "party" with DJs and catering in the space of the city walls. During 60 minutes of the show "Wine market" meet the silly Franciscan monk, proud and always smiling Baroness Herman Osijek's known "Mačkamama", General Petraš and his wife, have fun with the play in the play, watch out for the fortress cops, have fun in company of a nice tipsy owner of the inn and whatever you do, do not be afraid ...hmmm ...let's leave something as a secret for now...

Osijek for all

The main tourism route will first take you to Tvrđa, a fortified part of the city from the 18th century that hides interesting stories and legends such as those of the general Stephan von Beckers who built the city walls to defend the city from the Ottoman Empire. There you will have the opportunity to enjoy some of the most valuable examples of Baroque architecture in Croatia, such as the statue of Holy Trinity. Passing through the large parks and garden of King Tomislav you will come in the Art Nouveau district with monumental buildings such as the Postal Palace. Parallel road to the main square takes you along the Drava river and walking down the promenade will take you to the St. Peter and Paul Con-Cathedral. Completed in 1898 it's the second highest church in Croatia and with its 90 meter high tower it's the tallest building in Osijek today.

Osijek for blind and visually impaired people

Few year ago a Tourist Board of Osijek produced a tourist brochure printed in the Croatian language and in Braille, a kind of virtual travel guide for the blind and visually impaired. By making this brochure Osijek showed how step by step it becomes a city "without barriers" for tourists. If you would like to get to know the city in company of a licensed tourist guide, we'll help you with guides who have experience in the management of visually impaired people. Brochure in Braille is available in our tourist info centres near the Cathedral and in Holy Trinity Square square.

Boat excursions to the Drava and Danube River

Osijek is located on one of the largest European rivers, Drava, which flows from the Alps in Austria to the Danube river in Croatia. For the most of its length it is channelized but in Croatia it is still wild and beautiful, with it’s forests full of wild life and it’s waters rich in fish, often the basis for the local gastronomy. The nearby Nature Park Kopački Rit crisscrossed with canals and lakes is a world of wilderness of it’s own. You can experience it all if you take an exciting boat ride.
