Week of Black Slavonian Pig

In the city of Osijek, as part of the Osijek Gourmet project, the Black Slavonic Pig Week will be held from November 5 to 13, 2022. The black Slavonian pig, or the "fajferica", is an autochthonous Croatian pig breed that originated in the second half of the 19th century on the Orlovnjak wasteland near Osijek. Today, it is under the protection of the National Program for the Preservation of Autochthonous and Endangered Breeds of Domestic Animals in Croatia. The goal of the project is to promote premium Slavonian products as a potential for the development of Gourmet tourism through marketing, education and valorization of existing autochthonous and traditional products. The week of the black Slavonian pig will include promotional menus in renowned restaurants in the city of Osijek and its immediate surroundings. Don't miss out on the special black menus, which will include a dish made from black Slavonian pig and will be paired with the wines of "Osijek winemakers".

In addition to the top dishes that will be on the restaurant's plates, The Black Slavonian Pig Week will also include an expert-scientific panel discussion and a Master class for an expert audience. Since its inception, the black Slavonian pig has been significantly better and of higher quality than other breeds, which was reflected in its fertility and fleshiness, which is why it won the gold medal for quality at the world exhibition in Vienna in 1873. This autochthonous pig of good qualities is primarily kept on pastures and in forests and is intended for breeding in open areas where its black color protects it from the sun. Black pig meat is extremely high quality and unique, and bacon is one of the special specialties.
